About Ellen

Ellen learned to sew as a young girl and never stopped while pursuing an education and career as an engineer. Now retired, Ellen sews and creates all the time, and has started creating art work in addition to bed quilts and garments. Ellen has been exploring using plants and flowers to print on protein fibers such as silk or wool. While eucalyptus leaves remain a favorite, maple trees and plants such as a hydrangea or coleus also create prints on fabric.
Ellen is inspired by the world around her; the color of water and plants, the shapes of mountains and stones, the texture of sand and surfaces, her love of math and engineering. She captures these inspirations in the fabric she dyes and paints, her bed quilts wrap you in warmth and love. There is something about the tactile feel of fabric and paper that cannot be explained. A life long love and hobby that now consumes her days.
